Manipur occupies an area of great strategic importance in the North Eastern corner of India, with the city of Imphal as its capital. It has a total area of 22,347 Sq.Km. with nine districts and an aggregate population of about 27 lakh. Manipur is bordered by the states of Nagaland in the north, Mizoram in the south and Assam in the west. It also borders Myanmar in the east as well as in the south. The state lies at a latitude of 23°83'N – 25°68'N and longitude of 93°03'E – 94°78'E.
